Robert B. Aderholt was born in Haleyville, Ala., and still resides there.

He graduated from Haleyville High School and received a bachelor's degree from Birmingham Southern University in 1987 and a law degree from Samford University in 1990.

Aderholt lost a 1990 bid for the Alabama House but was elected as a George Bush delegate to the Republican National Convention two years later. Also in 1992, he was appointed city judge in Haleyville. Aderholt also served as legal assistant to Alabama Gov. Fob James.

Aderholt was first elected to the U.S. House in 1996.

He and his wife, Caroline, have two children.
