On the Issues
What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?
Low-income schools in Ward 1 suffer from low parent involvement. Schools should be provided with the necessary supports and resources to engage parents in the education of their children.
Why should voters elect you?
I bring to the table my knowledge of DCPS schools, acquired as a parent and as head of a multicultural community educational organization.
What do you think about the Capital Gains experiment, Rhee's plan to pay some students for doing well in school?
I am intrigued by the idea, and will be interested in seeing what the outcome of this plan is. If it works, it will improve the academic performance of our young people and they will meet the high expectations we have of them.
Do you support Mayor Adrian M. Fenty's plan to move the homeless into permanent housing?
I do, and I hope it is accompanied by thorough support mechanisms that reinforce the security than permanent housing offers.
How do you see elected officials helping residents through these difficult economic times?
Elected officials can play a key role by advocating measures that will create opportunities, provide information, and make available all the necessary resources to support those most in need during this economic contraction.
