On the Issues

What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

Parental involvement is a major challenge. Active participation of students' households needs to be addressed with innovative ideas and fresh energy. I believe that when parents or guardians are asked personally to commit themselves to the advancement of the schools, response will improve. I also believe in school personnel visiting the neighborhoods their schools are located in and acquainting themselves with the residents there. To create a family atmosphere, schools have to make attempts at visible outreach and not just insist that parents come to the school.

Why should voters elect you?

As parent, teacher, student and advocate, I have tackled the roots of the system's plaguing issues, and I'll show how recovery was begun.

How do you see elected officials helping residents through these difficult economic times?

I think that financial management workshops should be offered en masse. Citizens should be able to share with each other their methods of staying afloat. Additionally more community-based interactions should be encouraged, organized and developed explaining the challenges the city faces and some of the attempts at recovery that are being made.
