On the Issues

What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

Building community support for and involvement in Ward 2's many excellent schools. Many young families flee for suburban or private schools, leaving public schools struggling to maintain enrollment and programs. Yet great things are happening every day at Francis, Hyde, Ross, Thompson and other Ward 2 schools because neighbors and families are pitching in. Chinese immersion? Performing arts? College prep? Our schools top the District. Another urgent need: improving facilities, particularly at Ellington School for the Arts. Finally, we need better and more after-school programs and extracurriculars, particularly for teenagers.

Why should voters elect you?

I know my education "stuff," both as a journalist and parent, and have reflected residents' ideas in approving D.C.'s first-ever arts, health and other standards.
