Adam Putnam was born and lives in Bartow, Fla. Putnam earned a bachelor's degree in food and resource economics from the University of Florida in 1995.

The citrus grower and cattle rancher was elected to the Florida House in 1996 at the age of 22, making him the youngest member of the chamber. He was re-elected in 1998.

Putnam first was elected to Congress in 2000.

Putnam and his wife, Melissa, a teacher, have one child, Abigail Anna.
