Bruce Braley was born in Grinnell and grew up in Brooklyn. He did his undergraduate work at Iowa State University and then earned his law degree at the University of Iowa. He began practicing law in 1983 with a Waterloo firm, Dutton, Braun, Staack and Helman and has argued all kinds of civil law cases during his career.
Braley is a former head of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association and has served on the Democratic Party's platform committee.
He was a regional director for John Edwards' presidential campaign and is making his first run for public office.
