James "Jim" E. Risch was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and currently lives in Boise. He received his bachelor's degree in forestry from the University of Idaho in 1965, then his law degree from the same school in 1968.
Risch and his wife, Vicki, have three sons. Vicki Risch has managed many of her husband's campaigns and serves as one of his chief strategists.
