Peter Roskam was born in Hinsdale, Ill., and resides in Wheaton. He graduated from high school in Glen Ellyn, received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and a law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Roskam has worked as an attorney in private practice in the Wheaton law firm of Salvi, Roskam and Maher since 1993. Before then, he taught high school history for about a year in the U.S. Virgin Islands and worked briefly for Congressmen Henry Hyde and Tom DeLay in Washington.

Roskam ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert, R-Hinsdale, in 1998.

He has served in the state Legislature since 1993.

Roskam and his wife Elizabeth have four children.
