Jason Michael Wallace was born and raised in Normal, Ill. and graduated from Normal Community West High School in 2001.

He enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard after high school partly in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Wallace was later called to serve in Kuwait from February to July 2005. He was promoted to staff sergeant a year later.

He started work as a local community activist in 2003 and created an organization opposing the USA PATRIOT Act. He was also named a student trustee and several other positions at Heartland Community College in Normal.

Wallace transferred to Illinois State University with honors and continued to work with campus organizations. He later joined the Green Party after seeing Rich Whitney challenge Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Judy Barr Topinka in the 2006 gubernatorial race.
