Omar N. Lopez was born in Mexico and has lived in Chicago for 50 years. He has worked as a labor organizer, a Chicago Public Schools teacher, assistant to the head of the Chicago Park District and for the last 14 years as director of a program that provides services to Latinos impacted by HIV/AIDS and other disabilities.

Active in Democrat politics before becoming part of the Green Party, Lopez says he also helped to organize the large immigrant rights marches of 2006.

Lopez is a divorced father of four.
