Donald A. Manzullo was born in Rockford, Ill., and lives in Egan, Ill.

He received a bachelor's degree in political science from The American University School of Government and Public Administration in Washington in 1967. He earned a law degree from Marquette University Law School and began practicing law in 1970.

While in college, Manzullo worked for U.S. Rep. John Anderson. He was also a reporter for several northern Illinois weekly newspapers.

He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1992, after a surprisingly strong showing against a veteran state senator in the primary.

Manzullo and his wife, Freda, have three children.
