Mike Pence was born in Columbus, Ind., and resides there when Congress is not in session, When it is, he and his family live in Arlington, Va. He earned his undergraduate degree from Hanover College in 1981 and graduated from Indiana University's School of Law in 1986.

From 1991 to 1993, Pence served as president of the Indiana Policy Review, a conservative think tank based in Fort Wayne, Ind. In 1992, he began a career in radio broadcasting with "The Mike Pence Show" and by 1994, the show was syndicated statewide. His guests have included Bob Dole, Dan Quayle, Indiana Sen. Dick Lugar and former Sen. Dan Coats.

Pence was the Republican nominee in the 2nd District in 1988 and 1990, losing both times to Democrat Phil Sharp.

Pence and his wife, Karen, have three children.
