Nancy Boyda was born in St. Louis and has lived in Topeka, Kan., for more than 25 years. She earned a chemistry degree from William Jewell College in Kansas City, Mo., and worked as a manager of research and development for several pharmaceutical companies. She also is a former analytical chemist for the Environmental Protection Agency.
She taught seventh-grade chemistry before launching her first campaign for public office in 2004. She lost her bid to unseat Republican Jim Ryun in the 2nd Congressional District.
She and her husband, Steve, an attorney, have seven children from previous marriages.
