Bill Cassidy was born in Highland Park, Ill., and raised in Baton Rouge where he now lives. Cassidy received a bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University and studied medicine at Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans.
Cassidy is a physician who teaches at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge.
He first ran for elective office in 2006, when he won a state Senate seat. He was re-elected the next year.
Cassidy and wife, Laura, have three children.
