Jim McCrery was born in Shreveport, La., and still lives there. He received a bachelor's degree in 1971 from Louisiana Tech University and a law degree in 1975 from Louisiana State University.
He was an aide to U.S. Rep. Buddy Roemer from 1981 to 1984 and was first elected to the U.S. House in 1988.
McCrery and his wife, Johnette, have two children.
