Earl Sholley was born in Lebanon, Pa., and now resides in Norfolk. He earned a bachelor's in history from the University of Scranton in 1970 and a bachelor's in plant and soil sciences from the University of Massachusetts in 1978.
Sholley owned a retail flower shop and garden center for several years, and was the owner and manger of Grass Roots Lawn & Landscape Co. for 24 years.
Sholley's wife of 25 years died of breast cancer in 2005. He has two daughters.
