Kenny Hulshof was born in Sikeston, Mo., and grew up on a farm in Bertrand, in southeast Missouri. He resides in Columbia, Mo.

Hulshof received a bachelor's degree in agriculture economics from the University of Missouri in 1980 and his law degree from the University of Mississippi in 1983.

He began practicing law in 1983 as a public defender in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and three years later, joined the prosecutor's office in Cape Girardeau. Hulshof was a special prosecutor for the state attorney general's office from 1989 to 1996, specializing in murder cases, some of which won him statewide and national media coverage.

He first was elected to the U.S. House in 1996.

Hulshof is married to Renee Howell. They have two daughters.
