Gregg Harper was born in Jackson, MS, and lives in nearby Pearl. He graduated in 1978 from Mississippi College, a private Baptist school, and earned a law degree from the University of Mississippi in 1981.
He has practiced law for 27 years and currently works as prosecuting attorney for the cities of Brandon and Richland.
Harper is running in 2008 for an open seat in Mississippi's 3rd Congressional District, which stretches across the central part of the state. Republican Chip Pickering, who first won the seat in 1996, decided not to seek re-election.
Harper and his wife, Sidney, have two children.
