Travis Childers was born in Booneville, Miss., and still lives there. He attended Northeast Mississippi Community College before graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1980.
Childers was first elected chancery clerk of Prentiss County in 1991 and served in that position until he won a special election to fill north Mississippi's vacant U.S. House seat in May 2008.
He and his wife, Tami, have two children.
