Lee Terry was born and raised in Omaha, graduating from Omaha Northwest High School in 1980.

After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1984 and earning a law degree from Creighton University in 1987, Terry practiced as an attorney.

His former occupations included bartender, waiter and lifeguard.

In 1991, at age 29, he was first elected to the Omaha City Council.

He won his first campaign for Congress in 1998.

He and his wife, Robyn, have three children.
