Paul Hodes was born in New York City and lives in Concord. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1972 and from Boston College of Law in 1978.

He served as a New Hampshire assistant attorney general and as a special prosecutor before going into private practice. He won the state's first case against an environmental polluter, according to his campaign Web site.

Hodes also is a songwriter and musician who often performs with his wife, Peggo. As "Peggosus," they've recorded six albums for children, some of which won Parent's Choice Awards. In 1996, the couple performed at the White House.

Hodes served as board chairman for the Capitol Center for the Arts, in Concord, during a major effort to restore the former vaudeville theater. He was appointed to the state Council on the Arts by former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen. He also has served on the boards of other nonprofits supporting the arts and children's issues.

He and his wife have two children.
