Straniere served as a member of the New York General Assembly for 24 years. He was the Floor Leader for the Assembly Republican Conference as well as a member of the Ways and Means Committee. He's served on the Executive Board of the Council of State Government as well as the Executive Board of the American Legislative Exchange. After Straniere left the NY Assembly in 2005, he's practiced law in Manhattan and Staten Island.
