Zachary T. Space was born in Dover, Ohio, and is its law director, the city's top attorney.

After receiving his law degree from Ohio State University in 1986, he joined the public defender's office and met his future wife, Mary, who was then a public defender, too. (She now is a New Philadelphia Municipal Court judge and has been for the last 15 years.)

Space and his father, Socrates, opened their own law firm focusing on consumer rights cases, Space and Space Co. LPA. His father was a Democratic Party chairman in Tuscarawas County.

Space, who received an undergraduate degree in political science from Kenyon College, entered politics in 2000, taking over as law director when his friend, Thomas Watson, died.

Space also served as special counsel to two former Ohio attorneys general.

Zack and Mary Space have two children.
