Steve Chabot was born in Cincinnati, where he still lives. He received a bachelor's degree in history from the College of William & Mary in 1975 and a law degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University in 1978. He taught school in Cincinnati from 1975 to 1976.
Chabot served on the Cincinnati City Council, 1985-89, and on the Hamilton County Commission, 1990-94. He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1994.
Chabot and his wife, Donna, have two children.
