Steven L. Driehaus, 41, was born and raised in Cincinnati. He lived with his parents and seven siblings on the city's west side and attended the all-male Elder High School. His father, active in the local Democratic party, made an unsuccessful run for Congress in 1968.

Driehaus received a degree in political science at Miami University in Oxford and a master's in public affairs at Indiana University. He also spent time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal. Before becoming a state representative in 2000, he worked for a local councilman and as a legislative aide to U.S. Rep. Charlie Lukens.

Driehaus is employed as a consultant to the Community Building Institute.

He and his wife, Lucienne, have three children.
