Jim Trakas, 43, was born in Cleveland and lives in suburban Independence, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in social and behavioral sciences.
Trakas served four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives beginning in 1998. He started his political career in 1991 when he won the first of two terms on the Independence City Council. He was elected chairman of the Cuyahoga County Republican Party in 1996 and held the post until 2005.
He is married to Anne Kennedy Trakas.
