Jane Dyer was born in Greenville and raised in Pickens County in South Carolina's northwestern corner. She now resides in Easley.
Dyer was the first woman Air Force ROTC pilot to graduate from Clemson University. She flew cargo jets and small jets and trained new pilots for seven years before leaving the Air Force as a captain. She now flies cargo for FedEx.
Dyer has been active in her church as a ministry leader for young adults and children and she is a deacon. She has also coached basketball and soccer.
Dyer and her husband, John, have four children.
