Lindsey Graham was born in Seneca, S.C. and still lives there.
He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1977, and the University of South Carolina Law School in 1981, after which he practiced law.
Graham has served as judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force and is a colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
He was elected to the state House in 1992. He was elected to the U.S. House in 1994 and re-elected in 1996, 1998 and 2000.
He was elected to the Senate in 2002, filling the seat Sen. Strom Thurmond retired from as the nation's longest-serving senator.
He is single.
