Bob Tuke was born in Rochester, N.Y. and currently lives in Nashville, Tenn. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and his law degree from Vanderbilt University.

Tuke joined the race for the Senate nomination after serving a term as chairman of the state Democratic Party from 2005 to 2007.

Tuke is a former captain in the Marines who fought in Vietnam. He later settled in Nashville after graduating from law school in 1976.

He led an effort in the 1990s to rewrite Tennessee's adoption laws, and helped defend the new rules against legal challenges in the state Supreme Court.

Tuke and his wife, Susan, have two adopted children.
