Rob Curnock was born in Melrose Park, Ill., and he now resides in Waco. He earned a bachelor's in communications at Baylor University.
Curnock grew up in suburban Chicago, the son of a World War II veteran. His family later moved to Arkansas, and after high school he moved to Buffalo, N.Y., where he worked in the auto industry to earn money for college. He moved his way up from the assembly line into management and took some classes at the University of Buffalo.
After graduating from Baylor University at age 24, Curnock started working as a television news reporter and became a sports anchor. He later started his own video and production services company in Waco, which he decided to run full-time in 1991 when he left the television business.
Running his own business allowed Curnock to devote more time to the local Republican Party, and he served as an election judge. He had never run for office when he ran twice for the U.S. House in 2000 and 2002, before redistricting, when the 17th District was still known as the 11th District. He lost in both GOP primaries.
Curnock and his wife, Karen, a teacher, have no children.
