Glenn Melancon was the youngest of four children in a military family. He earned undergraduate, masters and doctorate degrees in Louisiana before moving to Sherman, Texas, in 1995. He's now a history professor at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, about 30 miles north of Sherman in Durant, Okla.
