John Faulk was born in Houston, where he still resides. His family has lived and worked in the 18th District since the late 1880s. He received a bachelor's degree in 1971 and a master's degree in Marketing in 1980 from the University of Houston.
Faulk served active duty in the Navy as a photographer's mate with several helicopter squadrons. Now a semi-retired accountant, his professional background is in health care administration and fundraising, having worked for Doctor's Hospital, the University of Houston and the Episcopal Dioceses of Texas. He is active in the United Methodist Church and Boy Scouts.
Faulk, who considers himself a conservative Republican, is making his first venture into politics.
Faulk is single and has three children.
