Matt Finkel was born in Columbia, Mo. and lives in Austin.
Finkel, a carpenter, is active in the Travis County Libertarian Party, where he is vice chairman. He also serves on the Libertarian Executive Board of Texas. He previously ran for justice of the peace in Travis County, earning 34 percent of the vote in that 2006 race as a Libertarian.
Finkel and his wife, Jaclyn, have no children.
