Bob Springmeyer was born in Provo, Utah, one of the state's most conservative cities. They now live in Salt Lake City, one of its most liberal cities, and Springmeyer is the Democratic nominee for governor. It is the first time he has run for public office.
Springmeyer is a lifelong Utah resident who likes to take advantage of the state's outdoor recreation, even as in his 60s. His hobbies include cycling and racing a bobsled and skeleton.
He is the owner and founder of Bonneville Research, a Salt Lake City consulting firm that frequently works with local governments on feasibility studies. He and his wife have long been community activists in the Salt Lake City area, where they spearheaded efforts to build the Ronald McDonald House of Utah, which serves the families of hospitalized children from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. He also formed and served as the first president of the Utah Wildlife and Conservation Foundation. The foundation works to improve the habitat of non-game wildlife in Utah and educate students about the ecological importance of the Great Salt Lake.
He and his wife, Gwen Springmeyer, have four adult children.
