On the Issues
What is the most urgent problem facing your district?
The nation's aging population and the coming entitlement spending explosion. I support the Cato Institute's "6.2 percent solution" for Social Security, in which individuals could invest 6.2 percent of their payroll tax in personal accounts, which they would own and be able to pass to heirs. This plan would restore long-term solvency to Social Security, but people who wanted to stay in the current system could do so. Medicare is already running a deficit. There should be prepaid Medicare accounts for current workers. Current retirees should receive vouchers to purchase health insurance or to deposit in a health savings account.
Why should voters elect you?
I am the only candidate who will work consistently for smaller government, lower taxes, real respect for civil liberties and individual freedom and responsibility.
For each of the below questions, select an answer and briefly explain your answer.
Would you support more funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to deport illegal immigrants?
a) No
b) Yes
c) Undecided
No. There should be open, but regulated immigration. People without criminal records and communicable diseases and not a security threat should stay.
Do you support the construction of a tunnel for the Tysons Corner portion of the metrorail extention to Dulles Airport?
a) No
b) Yes
Probably not, as this will increase the cost. I think transportation is a state & local government issue, with no federal funding for such projects.
Should the next president push for a time table for troop withdrawal from Iraq?
a) No
b) Yes
c) Undecided
Yes. However I think U.S. troops should be withdrawn from Iraq as quickly as can be safely accomplished.
Would you support a bill that recognized civil unions and same-sex partnerships?
a) No
b) Yes
c) Should be decided at state level
Yes. While I think this is really an issue for states, I think the federal government should honor states' and individuals' decisions on this matter.
Would you support a bill to lift the moratorium on offshore oil drilling?
a) No
b) Yes
c) Should be decided at state level
Yes.
Who do you endorse to be the next president of the United States?
a) Republican John McCain
b) Democrat Barack Obama
I endorse former U.S. Congressman Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party nominee for president of the United States. Please see his website, bobbarr2008.com.
The government should guarantee a basic benefit package to all that includes preventive care.
a) Agree
b) Disagree
No. It does not have that power in the U.S. Constitution. Also, health care is not a right, as it requires the talents and resources of other people.
