A native of Paterson, N.J., Pollina's life in Vermont has been distinguished by advocacy work on behalf of farmers, taxpayers and peace organizations.
He founded an organization called Rural Vermont, worked as a policy aide to then-U.S. Rep. Bernie Sanders (1991-1996) and was a founding board member of the Vermont Milk Co., a farmer-owned dairy established in 2006 to pay farmers a higher-than-average price for milk.
He has also served on the board of the Northeast Organic Farmers Association.
