Dino Rossi: Lessons in Leadership, Business, Politics and Life

Dino Rossi was born on October 15, 1959, in Seattle, Wash. He attended Woodway High School in Edmonds and Seattle University, where he studied business. After college, he started a career in real estate. He co-founded Eastside Commercial Bank and served as vice president of Scott Real Estate Investments in Seattle.

In 1996, Rossi was elected to the State Senate, representing the 5th Legislative District in Washington. He stayed in the seat until 2003. He received the first-ever “Defender of Liberty Award” from the Evergreen Freedom Foundation for being an instrumental part of the most fiscally conservative budget ever written in the state. He ran for governor of the state in 2004 against Christine Gregoire. The close race came down to an automated count of the ballots. Rossi won the first and second automated counts of the ballots. Gregoire won a third, hand-counted effort, giving her the victory by 129 votes. Though Gregoire was sworn in on January 12, 2005, Rossi did not formally concede until June 6, 2005, after various challenges to the results.

In 2006, he became co-owner of the Everett Aqua Sox minor league baseball team. He also started Forward Washington Foundation, a community non-profit organization. He is currently on the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Seattle University School of Business and Economics.
