Rick Larsen was born and raised in Arlington, Wash., and now lives in Everett. After attending local public schools, he earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Pacific Lutheran University in 1987 and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Minnesota in 1990.
Larsen was public affairs director for the Washington state Dental Association for six years after working for the Port of Everett in 1990 and 1991.
He won a seat on the Snohomish County Council in 1997 and served as council chair in 1999.
He was elected to the U.S. House in 2000 and re-elected in 2002 and 2004.
He and his wife, Tiia, have two sons.
