Alan B. Mollohan was born in Fairmont, W.Va., and resides there. He received a bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary in 1966. He received a law degree from West Virginia University in 1970. He practiced law in Washington, and later in Fairmont.
He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1982.
Mollohan and his wife, Barbara, have five children.
