Chris Rothfuss was born in Ann Arbor, Mich. And currently lives in Laramie, Wyo. Rothfuss' family moved to Casper, Wyo., from Michigan in 1985 and he attended high school in Casper. He received his bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the University of Wyoming. He also received a master's degree and a PhD from the University of Washington.

Rothfuss has worked for Chemical Tracers, Inc., a Laramie, Wyo., company that performs in situ reservoir fluid saturation measurements. He also worked for three years at the U.S. Department of State in Washington. Rothfuss and his family moved to Laramie in 2006 and he works as an instructor at the University of Wyoming, teaching courses on Diplomacy and Negotiations through the Political Science and International Studies Departments, and Nanotechnology through the University Honors Program.

He and his wife, Heather, have two children.
