23114: No Voting Issue

arrived at 5:45 am, was out by 6:25 am, I was voter number 174. It was easy even with the rain! Two of my three sons voted with their father and I. We were so proud of them. Read More »

20171: Other

Not an issue, as much as a concern. I used one of VA's new paper ballot / scanners. I'm not impressed. The scanner gives no indication that it counted the ballot, nor that it counted it correctly. Also, the machines apparently do not record red, but there were no instructions that said NOT to use red ink or pencil. Read More »

23233: Access Issue

We live in Mexico and requested ballot online but still had to send the signed copy in. Kind of defeats the purpose! Consulate here was great help at getting our vote back to VA. Read More »

20190: No Voting Issue

I arrived about 10:45 a.m. Line to register was short--3 people. Given choice for electronic machine, or paper ballot, it was a no-brainer: line for machine was 20-25 deep. Cubicles to fill out paper ballot--5--emptied almost immediately. Filled in four "circles" in no time; placed ballot in machine and that was it. Why people "waited" for electronic machine? You figure it out! Read More »

Went to vote at 1 pm in Fredericksburg, VA. To my surprise, there was absolutely no line - I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. My husband & I took our 5yr old son w/us to vote. We all are extremely overjoyed with the fact that we will be a part of history in the U.S. It's definitely time for CHANGE and if I had to stand in the line 5 1/2 more hours I would! An enormous amount of energy permeating at the polls despite the wait & rain. There was a strong sense of pride in the air. May God continue to bless America as the people continue to PRAY! 22003: Other

Before voting, 3 of us, strangers in adjacent booths, shared concerns about our ballots, a bit of a no-no. An official swooped in and kindly addressed our problem. None of us 3 old women had ever voted with pencil on paper. We were skeptical as to how our votes could be secured manually. Paper and pencil! What will these younguns think of next? :)) Read More »

24201: Other

I just turned 18 and this was my first time. The staffs did not help me correctly and they just handed me a ballet. I was confused and asked for direction to the next step after I received my ballot. The elderly that worked there showed me to the submit box and I cast it without voting. I was very disappointed and they said nothing can be done. I think I was not given enough instruction and was denied of my right to speech. Read More »

20151: No Voting Issue

This election was the first that I was able to cast a regular ballot (I submitted absentee ballots while in the military), so I brought my 5-yr-old son with me to vote at 8am. There was no wait for my letter group, but L-R was out the door! A very kind older woman gave my son her "I voted!" sticker as we left, which just made his day. Her kindness is just one reason why I am so proud to be an American! Read More »

Arrived at 6:15AM. The line was already several hundred people long. However, it moved steadily throughout. People were in good spirits, having conversations with people next to them. The election officials were very polite and seemed nicely organized. The PTA at the school was selling donuts and coffee. I voted and was out of line by 7:45. Not terrible. It's fantastic to see such a big turnout. Read More »

20164: Access Issue

I am blind, and the poll workers initially had no idea how to enable the audio ballott on the touch screen voting machine. The problem was eventually resolved, but it was also difficult to review my ballott before casting it, since all the options were read again, and no summary of the selections I had made was given. Obama all the way and the entire democratic ticket. I could never get my kids out to vote...but today, my son beat me to the poll and my baby girl came along, then my oldest daughter. What a great feeling. (Ages 19, 21 and 24). God bless America! Read More »

22302: Voting Glitch

As per procedure, I was given an activation number to activate my electronic polling station. However, my code was for President only. It did not allow me to vote for Senator or Representative. Fortunately someone identified the problem, but my vote was already cast; so they had me fill out a provisional ballot (with President scratched out). They said they had no other such reports (~3:30 PM). I wonder if other people just didn't notice/care. Read More »

No lines, no problems at our polling place. It's funny that we're not allowed to wear an Obama or McCain t-shirt in Virginia, but you do have to run the guantlet of both Republican and Democratic poll workers with "sample ballots". The Obama folks wore T-shirts with big "O" on them! Read More »

Longest Wait Time Yet?

State: Virginia

A voter in Chesapeake, Va., waited in line for more than 7 hours, slightly more than the extraordinary 6 1/2-hour wait times in the suburbs of St. Louis, according to Election Protection. The voter apparently was at the Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Community Center, which has about 1,000 people waiting in line when voting machines went down today. Voting machines are now back up and running and, as of 5 p.m., the wait was about 90 minutes. (Virginian-Pilot) Read More »

Three 'Voter Suppression' Cases in Va.

State: Virginia

State police are investigating at least three cases of possible voter suppression at election sites across Virginia. The cases were reported in the city of Richmond, Fairfax County and Fauquier County. One case was concerning the "over presentation of law enforcement" at a polling place; another case involved the playing of a "loud" recording of right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh within 300 feet of a precinct. The FBI is looking into how a phony e-mail was sent to George Mason University's server telling people to vote Nov. 5 along with the forged signature from the college's provost. About 35,000 people received the fake e-mail message (although most students interviewed by The Post said they didn't fall for it). (USA Today) Read More »

Judge Orders Va. To Keep Late Ballots

State: Virginia

A federal judge ordered election officials in Virginia to preserve late-arriving absentee ballots, including ones from military personnel overseas, that Republican Sen. John McCain's campaign claims should be counted. The McCain campaign says in a lawsuit that absentee ballots weren't mailed on time to many military members serving overseas. The complaint asks the court to order the state to count absentee ballots from overseas troops postmarked by Tuesday and received by Nov. 14. (AP) Read More »

Phony Election E-Mail Tracked to Company

Among the group's clients are Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine's Moving Virginia Forward campaign and Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh's AllAmerica Political Action Committee Web site.
