Appointed in 1993 by President Bill Clinton to head the Environmental Protection Agency, Browner would become the longest-serving EPA administrator in history, staying in the position for both of Clinton's terms. Browner honed her environmental knowledge on Capitol Hill while working first for her one of her home-state senators (the late Lawton Chiles) and then for Sen. Al Gore (D-Tenn.). She also headed Florida's Department of Environmental Regulation. Most recently, she has been a principal at The Albright Group, a global strategy firm founded by former secretary of state Madeleine Albright.
