Blake, a career foreign service officer, is a second generation diplomat. His career has been centered in Northern Africa and Asia, most recently as ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He arrived in Sri Lanka from India, two years after the deadly tsunami that killed 225,000 and displaced more than a million people in the region. Blake suffered minor injuries during an attack from Tamil Tigers while traveling to an economic development conference in 2007.
