2007 was an eventful year in sports for the area and I had the chance to cover a wide variety of events. Whether it was a junior cheerleading competition in Marlboro, Md., or the PGA making a return to the Washington area, the opportunity to make fun, newsworthy images were in abundance. Emotions ran the gamut while covering the first Redskins game since Sean Taylor's death, but on the flip side, there were inspiring events that showed the power of sports when the Hokie nation reunited on the football field after the tragic events this summer. This year, I had the opportunity to cover several stories for our "Why We Compete" series, including B.A.S.E. jumpers diving off the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia and I witnessed the pride a dog owner has for her prize-winning coonhounds in Pennsylvania. And like every year, covering the area's pro teams made for some fun images that received a lot of positive feedback. Without a doubt, whether it was covering the Terps at Byrd Stadium or the local high schools on the fields and courts around the area, I had a great time photographing the talented athletes and fanatical supporters that watched the games unfold.
