Biographical InformationWYLIE, Chalmers Pangburn, a Representative from Ohio; born in Norwich, Muskingum County, Ohio, November 23, 1920; attended Pataskala public schools, Otterbein College, and Ohio State University; J.D., Harvard Law School, 1948; enlisted in United States Army as a private, attained rank of first lieutenant and served with Thirtieth Infantry Division in Europe during the Second World War; lieutenant colonel in Army Reserves; assistant attorney general of Ohio, 1951-1954; assistant city attorney of Columbus, Ohio, 1949-1950; elected city attorney of Columbus, Ohio, 1953-1956; administrator of Bureau of Workmans Compensation for the State of Ohio in 1957; appointed first assistant to the Governor of Ohio in 1957; elected president of Ohio Municipal League in 1957; practicing attorney, 1959-1968; served three terms in State Legislature of Ohio, 1961-1967; elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth and to the twelve succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1967-January 3, 1993); was not a candidate for renomination in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress; practiced law in Columbus until his death there on August 14, 1998.
