On the Issues
What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?
Hyper-development characterized by unsustainable growth is the most serious problem facing Arlington County. As new office towers go up overnight in Rosslyn and Ballston, employers move into the county, spurring demand for housing that drives up rents and real estate assessments and promotes infill construction, (e.g. McMansions that hog energy and induce run-off). My opponents advocate even more development, arguing that Arlington's growth is "green" and sustainable. The only thing green about it is the dollars that developers pocket. Nearly all indicators of environmental quality in Arlington are trending down. The schools are overpopulated, and the subways are overcrowded.
Why should voters elect you?
I will put the brakes on hyper-development by scrutinizing high-density site plans and requiring builders to pony up their fair share of infrastructure costs.
