On the Issues

What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

Our great challenge is to keep Fairfax County public schools at the leading edge of public education in the face of several daunting realities: persistent budget constraints; continued population growth; accountability mandates that put increasing emphasis on test scores; growing concerns about student wellness in our competitive, fast-paced community; and stubborn achievement gaps that begin at the kindergarten door. In that climate, the next School Board must enlist and empower teachers, students, parents and citizen experts as we pursue exciting innovations in classroom instruction that honor the whole child and prepare our students for success in the 21st century.

Why should voters elect you?

I am the only teacher running for School Board in my district. We need a teacher's perspective to keep policy grounded in classroom experience.
