On the Issues

What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

In 2009, Northern Virginia had the nation's second-worst traffic congestion, significantly affecting our health, environment and quality of life. Our region is the economic engine for the commonwealth. Without increased transportation resources, we limit future job growth and economic potential. Under former governor Tim Kaine, I worked to help find joint federal, state and local smart growth, BRAC infrastructure and Dulles Metrorail solutions for our region. My priorities include: incentives for transit and telecommuting; permanent transportation infrastructure and maintenance funding; high-speed rail; walking, bicycling and trails; locally-controlled, coordinated land-use and transportation decisions; and, specifically, Columbia Pike transit and complete streets.

Why should voters elect you?

A civic and Democratic leader, adviser to former governor Tim Kaine and President Obama appointee, I have the experience to represent our values in Richmond.
