On the Issues

What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

The most urgent problem facing Northern Virginia is inadequate transit and highway infrastructure to move our growing population around the region. We continue to raid our once "dedicated" highway construction funds for maintenance. My most important overall priority, however, is to fund education, pre-K through PhD. I am particularly concerned about recent cuts to higher education and seek to restore funding. I am strongly opposed to further general-fund transfers from education, health care and other priorities to transportation when we do not have the courage to simply recover the purchasing power lost to inflation over the last 26 years.

Why should voters elect you?

I'm a proven legislator who values a bipartisan approach. After eight years, I remain dedicated to making Virginia work even better for taxpayers.
