On the Issues

What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

In 2009, Northern Virginia had the nation's second-worst traffic congestion, significantly affecting our health, environment and quality of life. Our region is also the economic engine for the commonwealth; without increased transportation resources, we limit future job growth and economic potential. Under former governor Tim Kaine, I worked to help find joint federal, state and local smart growth, BRAC infrastructure and Dulles Metrorail solutions for our region. My priorities include incentives for transit and telecommuting; permanent transportation infrastructure and maintenance funding; high-speed rail; walking, bicycling and trails; locally controlled, coordinated land-use and transportation decisions; and, specifically, Columbia Pike transit and complete streets.

Why should voters elect you?

A civic and Democratic leader, adviser to former governor Tim Kaine, an Obama administration appointee, I have the experience to represent our values effectively in Richmond.
